How desperate are some dealers in this time of crisis? How about half price cars? It may sound silly, but that’s what Pohanka Chrysler-Dodge has to do in the next week to empty out their inventory according to CNN. On June 9, Pohanka’s franchise to sell new Chryslers and Dodges will be terminated, along with those of almost 800 other Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep dealers nationwide. Ray O’Bryhim, the owner, cannot legally sell any new cars he has left after June 9 — and because the manufacturer is in bankruptcy protection it isn’t obligated to take them back. Hundreds of dealers are in the same place as them. It sounds like some cheap commercial, but EVERY car really must go by the time June 9th comes around. Ever car that isn’t is lost money.

With this said, until June 9th, EasyAutoSales is going to help out Pohanka by displaying a new car for sale that they still must get rid of every day. We’ll even Twitter about it, in hopes the right person may see the car and Ray will get some his inventory out the door! So, let’s start out with the inventory:

Pohanka Chrysler-Dodge Inventory

Remember, Pohanka needs to get rid of their new car inventory. They can still sell used cars after the 9th. So, let’s pick out a first car to feature:
Let’s be honest, the truck is a legend. With a 5.7L Hemi and some healthy design updates, this is one sharp truck and one that can haul anything you can throw at it. Not only does it look good, but sounds pretty sweet too:

So let’s visit Pohanka and see what kind of deal Ray and his team can make for you on this new Dodge Ram 1500.

For those of you who find the regular SMART FourTwo either too mundane or not fuel efficient enough, I present the following. Not only does the car keep the same Euro chic image of the regular SMART FourTwo, but you also get the added benefit of a lithium-ion battery. With the electric SMART you also get a 0-60 of 7.1 seconds, top speed of 80MPH and a range of over 140 miles on single charge. The charge time is approximately 6-8 hours and you should get a duty cycle of around 1500 charges on the battery.

Want to know more about it? Discuss it with us on the EasyAutoSales forums and we’ll give you all the juicy information: Hybrid Technologies LiV “Dash” (SMART FourTwo)

Well, it’s Saturday night. For most of the youger crowd, that means tonight you’re going out dancing with your girl or drinking with you best freinds. But how are you going to get around town? Might I interest you in this insane 1970s limo with prerequesite disco stripes? It honestly looks like one of the most rickety limos I’ve ever seen, a little more lemON than limO.

There were a lot of very compelling booths at NADA. Aspen Marketing had an excellent setup with a number of Playboy Bunnies out front. DealerTrack, Dealer.com and a few others had huge booths and were running some excellent seminars right on the floor of the expo. Even VW had some great cars on the floor and some VERY helpful members of the VW team that couldn’t be more helpful. However, one booth stood above the rest in my eyes and it was that of Ford Motors. Due to the sheer size of Ford, their booth had a number of sections that dealt with cars, service, Work Solutions, financing and a number of other jobs they do. On every front, the booth was alive and kicking. Every Ford representative was busy talking with someone. They were all smiling, everyone was happy, it was relaxed but you could tell dealers and 3rd party ventors were all enjoying and learning the Ford experiance. From talking to the representatives to trying the F-150 “Raptor” simulator, I felt as though Ford “got it.”

Ford understood the need for for both compelling cars that dealers want to sell and buyers want to buy. They showed an excellent set of exciting cars that exemplify the changes Ford has been making since Alan Mulally came to power at FMC. Whereas some booths had pie in the sky cars that weren’t even drivable or boring models that make buyers eyes glaze over even more than dealers who have to sell them, ever single Ford vehicle there was a drivable car that dealers are waiting for right now. All of them are bold, edgy and slighly quirky in their own way. Below is a small sample of those 2010 models that got the EasyAutoSales crew very excited:

V8 Power. Mustang Beauty.

The next incarnation of the Ford Mustang. As nice as the new Chevy Camaro is, the interior dimensions are very small. The car seems tight and cramped. The dash was too high and the rear visibility was paultry. The new Mustang though, using those same retro designs as the Camaro, really made me feel much more at home. The car is much more open. The glass roof is amazing! Rear visibility is usable (despite the wing) though the same over-the-shoulder view is almost non-existant as the other muscle cars. The hood sits a little lower so you can use the front window much more than other similar muscle cars. The interior was a nice if not nicer than the leather of GM’s offerings. Overall, this Mustang impressed me with much higher quality materials than the outgoing model (the first revived Mustang) and should be an even bigger seller.

Sport Focus Coupe

This Ford Focus Sports Coupe really made me smile. Though I’m sure it’ll be a front engined car, it shows Ford is going outside their boundries to compete in the US where they are already doing well in Europe. The Focus RS is a super car in Europe that can fight it out with the likes of the Mini Cooper S and even hitting above it’s class at cars like the WRX. GM had a limited hit with the Cobalt, and now that it’s going to be leaving us in favor of the Cruze, the small American sport coupe will be once again open. Though the above is only a concept, I think it shows a great idea. If you keep trying to expant outwards, eventually you’re going to win with something. This Focus coupe isn’t quite there, but it’s close to something cool and exciting.

The New Ford Taurus!

When did the Taurus start looking like a hip car? It seems Ford is finally taking a queue from their European counter parts like Citroen and Peugeot by making a sedan that looks more like a new Audi than an old boat. The agressive headlights, funky boot (trunk) and “gills” on each side make a sedan that salesman would be more than happy to drive. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to sit in the car, but compared to the Fusion next to it (which had great body and leg room, though poor head room in the back), it was vast. I think this car is going to surprise a lot of people with the upcoming SHO version. It might not be a replacement for an M5, but it shows that Ford is trying to make a premium product that any class can afford.

2010 Ford F-150 SVT "Raptor"

I have to admit, I’m biased towards this truck. There’s something exciting about this new F-150 that is so powerful, it’s taken someone who loves his BMW M3, someone who road races and autocrosses on the weekends, and turned him into a truck fan. A blubbering truck fan at that. Whereas the old F-150 SVT “Lightning” was meant to be a truck that could compete with the average sports car, the SVT “Raptor” is supposed to embarrass every other truck out there in their native playground, The Dirt. By making a truck from the factory that can stand up to the punishment of the Baja 1000 (with the exception of proper safety equipment) and finish 3rd in class, Ford has said, “We’ve been the best selling car in the US for a very long time with the F-150 and now we’re going to take it up a knotch by creating a truck that is the pinnacle of off-roading.” I was able to pocke and prod around this beast and every part I touched I was impressed with. The suspension is a work of art. The suspension travel is epic. The rear tail-gate step is thoughtful and useful, despite how bersek this truck is.

If I could have found Alan Mulally on the floor I would have given him my card and said, “Keep this name handy. You’ve taken a guy who only buys German sports cars and made him the biggest truck fan this side of the Mississippi. You can put me on that list of buyers for the Raptor.”

Don’t get me wrong, there were a lot of exciting groups there. GM, VW, Kia, Toyota and many others all gave great shows that have shown the progress each company has made in their respective shortcomings. But Ford shined above them all. At the show Alan Mulally said that Ford wasn’t going to take any bailout money from the US Government and were foregoing the lines of credit they were offered while GM and Chrysler took money from the tax payers. Their products are a reflection of their progress and quality of business. I hope that the other American car makers look at Ford as an example of what can be done by a major manufacturer in a tough economic time. They are proof of American ingenuity and hard work. Even a company that was, but a few years ago, known by the moniker “Fix Or Repair Daily” can be known as “Fun Or Rugged Dailydrivers.”

Side Note: Ford did not offer me or EasyAutoSales anything nor did they solicit the above article. They currently do not pay EasyAutoSales nor have they given us any sort of gift or incentive to write the above. Not that we’re saying we’re not open to such things I’m just speaking as a passionate car lover.

Mugen is known in the tuning world for working wonders with Honda engines and chassis. They work on the Honda F1 engines and have a names that’s as well known in Japanese import tuning that rivals AMG or M in German tuning. Such a group of engineers have to be dedicated to such huge endevours. As such, it shows not only in their cars but in their workplace too. As you can see by the picture above, they have taken some pretty epensive hardware (engine connecting rods) and stuck it on their front doors to work as handles. This can only be thought of as one of the best mods to anyone’s home garage I’ve got to give the Mugen boys huge props on this and can only imagine what their toilets look like.

I’m taking this one from Jalopnik’s book with the “nice ride or crack pipe” book…

After looking around eBay a week or so ago for a nice first generation Mazda Miata, I came across a beautiful white 1990 model. 1.6L engine. Factory hardtop. Beautiful. But why so much? The buyer has a ton of work into the car and the millage is incredibly low. However, even a 40,000 mile version of the world’s most prevalent roadster isn’t going to bring $12,000 any time soon. There are too many in good condition for a car this common to demand that price. Never the less, it is a beautiful Miata, one of the greatest cars ever built.

Instead, check out this wonderful set of Miatas on EasyAutoSales (shameless plug): Super Miata Deals!

A friend of EasyAutoSales, Lance Weatherby, recently wrote an article on his blog about the Wheego Whip plug-in electric vehicle. EasyAutoSales would love to share his insights with you! Check out what Lance thinks below…

This past weekend while the North American International Auto Show kicked off in Detroit I had my own little personal auto show. I spend the weekend tooling around in a prototype of the Wheego Whip by RTEV. It was a fun experience. When I brought it home both of my kids exclained “cool.” And boy did it generate a lot of attention and spark several a conversation over the course of 72 hours.

Nearly everyone that looks at the Whip says “Is that a Smart Fortwo?” The answer is no. The car’s platform and body is manufactured by Shuanghuan Automobile in China and then shipped to the US for final assembly at the RTEV manufacturing facility in South Carolina. While the production car will eventually be capable of speeds of up to 60 mph, it will be launched as a Low Speed Vechicle (LSV). LSVs are generally capable of speed up to 35 mph and allowed to travel on streets with that same speed limit. The prototype I tested was an LSV.

The Whip is a “plug-in” all electric vehicle. To charge it you literally plug the car into a normal 110 or 220 volt electrical outlet. A single charge was getting me about 20 miles in the prototype. The production vehicle is expected to get 60 on a single.

In place of the fuel input there is a male electrical receptacle. It is so easy to charge that a fifth grader is capable of doing it.

The dash on the Wheego is straightforward.

Almost as straightforward as putting the car in forward or reverse.

Before the weekend was over we were using the Wheego as our main vehicle to run errands or ferry the kids to sports practices and sleepovers. It’s fun to drive in a way that is a lot different from my power laden and gas loving 540. I was mostly just hanging out in the right lane of four way streets while cars buzzed around me (in Atlanta a posted 35 mph means go 50). But what I began to notice was that I was pulling right up to these cars at the next traffic light, pretty much making my way at the same pace. And I spent not a penny in gas.

The Wheego Whip is expected to be available in May of 2009 at a price in the $20k range.

If the Pontiac Aztek came from the Toyota RV2, that must mean the RV2 must have come from my 2nd grade LEGO experiments becuase that’s the last time I saw some ICBM doors on a car that has the front of a Lamborghini and opens into a camper. This is one of the weirdest concept cars I’ve personally ever seen. From the lime green that we expect form a Porsche race car to the boat-like rear end, Toyota was making a foray into Frankencars. It does make you wonder though: If this car some how made it to production, would Toyota still be the powerhouse we see today, or would if have marked the beginning of Japan’s “Carpocolypse”?
