Yesterday the Amazon S3 service was disabled for about 8 hours. Because of such, our images for cars were not available during that time. While the service has been reliable thus far except for a couple of incidents, 8 hours is really a LONG time for a service to be down, especially during the middle of the day.
While Amazon does not have a SLA, I do hope that offer some kind of refund or credits for such a down time. Luckily for us it was only images, which does play a LARGE part in our business. However, I’m sure there are other businesses out there that store their databases or other important and vital components on S3 and a down time like that would have severely crippled them.
