Nissan Previews Next Generation “EV” (Vehicles)
Today Nissan unveiled more plans to release more all-electric and hybrid electric vehicles using lithium-ion batteries. As stated in their press release:
TOKYO (August 6, 2008) - Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. today unveiled all-electricand original hybrid electric prototype vehicles, both powered by advancedlithium-ion batteries. Under the NISSAN GT 2012 business plan, the companyhas committed to zero-emission vehicle leadership, and has announcedplans to introduce an all-electric vehicle in 2010 and mass market globallyin 2012.
The part I really like is this nifty little Honda Element knock-off:
Maybe the black and white scheme does it for me or it’s goofy dimensions. No matter, in the past it’s seemed that Nissan has greatly lagged behind their competitors Toyota and Honda in the hybrid vehicle market. Perhaps waiting and slowly working on getting a second generation hybrid out is a super smart move. The technology is more robust, there’s less warranty issues in Nissan has always tried to brand itself a little higher with better performing vehicles. Let’s hope they’ll start to move their fleet into a much cooler and more widespread segment of the market with their hybrid and electric cars.

BMW Understands Its Core Customers
July 2008 Sales Number - Go Mini, Go!
With 26 actual “selling days”, July 2008 shows that most car companies (not just The Big Three, as the news might have some believing) are hurting by the current lack of consumer confidence and increase in fuel prices. As some might figure, Hummer is taking it on the cheek with a 72% reduction of sales (averaging 72/day) where as Mini (part of the BMW Group) is kicking it at 195 cars per day, up 15% from the same time last year. Nissan and Mercedes also have an increase of 1.4% and 3%, respectively. As you could guess, Chrysler, Ford and GM are some of the largest losers with Toyota and Honda not far behind. Though new car sales are failing, by the estimations here at EasyAutoSales.com is that used cars sales are kicking into full swing as people are always looking for a sweet new ride.

This is a Mad Man’s Car
We don’t have too much details on this car but it goes to show how a carefully crafted paint job can make a car look AMAZING. This car looks like it has a BMW front with a Lamboghini back. If you guys know anything about it, we would love to get more info on it.

Rhys Millen’ Hyundai Genesis Coupe Debacle
In the BMW community there are many well known cars around the country. One in particular is Jon Sibal. Jon’s a graphic designer and his BMW shows it. His custom renderings have not only changed the face of his 3-series, but that of many other cars, including various cars that often show up at SEMA. However, this year, there’s going to be one car in particular that uses his designs, yet he had no part in. Here’s the picture:
The new Hyundai Coupe, with help from racing drive of D1 drifting fame, have put together a “racing concept” car to get people excited about the new coupe. In the process of doing so, they may have stolen a rendering by Jon that was done for a Lexus LF-A front bumper. As you can see by the picture below, the designs are from the hood-line down are an exact copy. Doing a quick copy-paste and resize in Photoshop only makes the case for Hyundai worse. I only hope that whoever did this design for Hyundai realizes you can’t go around taking other people’s designs off the internet.

Cheesy Mercedes Music Videos Shows You Can Beat Them All
It’s amazing that the same company that could bring us something so awe-inspiring as this (thanks to Jon Sibal of BMW fame for this picture):

…can also bring us this:
With a spectacularly 80s soundtrack, this Mercedes video is how they rally the troops over in Germany. Combine slick black suits and sexy Mercedes cars and trucks and you’ve got yourself a winner. I was half expecting David Hasselhoff (”The Hoff”) to show up. Thumbs-up Mercedes! You beat them all!

4,600 Tickets From Mustang Police Cars In June. Are The Roads Safer?
The Indinapolis Star recently reported on the fact that their fleet of new Ford Mustangs have collected over 4600 tickets on the highways of Indiana. These unmarked cars are targeted specifically on catching speeders and work from the 18 Indiana highway stations around the state. Just tossing some numbers out there, 4600 tickets times $100 a ticket turns in to $460,000 dollars. Enough to keep those Mustangs running and pay the officers who patrol with them. What I’d really like to know is if catching all these speeders has really decreased the number of accidents on highways. Personally, I fail to see how hiding in unmarked cars is still a reasonable tactic for police outside of undercover operations. If you want people to be safe and slow down, make yourself seen. If you want to make money, hide your cars.

Benefits of a Weak Dollar
With the dollar’s current weakness against the Euro, Pound and other foreign currency, many European automakers have decided that the US is too big of a market to give up due to poor currency exchange rates. So, why not reverse the problem and start building cars stateside for super cheap and sell them in Europe where the currency is as strong as ever. Audi, VW and a few other brands have decided to open production facilities here in the US to offset the current currency disparity. Where this will leave them in a few years when the Dollar recovers is anyone’s guess, but with a greater value to the US Dollar, this will lead people to buy more cars and in turn, the car makers will export less cars to Europe and just sell them in the USA to prevent what’s happening now when cars are built in Europe and sold in the states.

Top Gear USA - First Filming A Success
Many of you Top Gear fanatics (as well as myself) have been fretting over the eventual quality of a USA based Top Gear due to the show’s financial backing (in the UK, the Government [through the BBC] funds the show which gives them freedom to be honest about cars on the show that might otherwise be part of the show’s advertising base). However, this past weekend, the first filming of Top Gear USA seems to have been a great success. Though many have complained about the guests (Howie Mandel and Mel B), I think Howie was a great choice due to his current popularity with Deal, No Deal. Whereas I do hope they will branch outside of NBC shows, it’s a solid start to get people to watch who might not normally tune in.
It also seems that Adam Carolla was in fact a great choice, by many who were at the first taping. Whereas Jeremy Clarkson and the British crew work off a script, Adam does about 90% improv which really got the crowd chuckling. The other two hosts haven’t come into their own yet, but the chemistry is there and it’s starting. With a few more shows under their belt, most feel they will be a great team.
Though the first show may not be used as the actual pilot on NBC, producer Andy Wilman said it will in fact be used at some point, much to his surprise. One guest who got to talk with Andy stated, “One interesting thing that Andy said was before the tapping he didn’t think that this show was going to be broadcastable, just because the guys needed more time to get in a grove, but after the show he was really excited and said that he would probably use the show, but just not as the series premier but as a later episode.” Some say the shows pilot will air online at some point. Some say we may see it on the local bittorrent sites before the end of the year. All we know is that the first episode is slated to air sometime in January.
