Fuel efficient used cars under 10K? Why not just by a hybrid and save yourself the trouble. You will spend more money in repairs than you ever would on gas.

Some people don’t have the money to buy a hybrid retail or refuse to borrow money to buy a new car (me included). All the cars on this list are among the 90 percentile in terms of reliability and low maintenance costs. Even the most expensive (Toyota Echo, Honda Insight) are first generation hybrids that Toyota and Honda have stated they’ll extend the battery warranty to some owners. The rest of the cars are DIRT reliable. I guarantee you can buy a Acura Integra or Scion xA for less than $10,000 and in the next 100,000 miles you’ll not spend the $13,000 difference in a new hybrid on maintenance (or even gas possibly). Cost-benefit analysis proves this.
